Where is your happy place?
Sometimes life and other people cause you stress, making you generally unhappy. What to do? While there are tons of ways of dealing with this (a punch in the nose, a scream, flee), you generally want to get to your happy place.
What and where is your happy place? How do you get there? Maybe, it is easier than you think.
Before – thoughtless.
You get up in the morning. You slept poorly last night. The dog got you up again and again to go outside. Your head aches. There is a buzz in your ears, a high pitched whistle that sounds like a jet. You make a pot of coffee and wait. Waiting for it to steep. All the while restless and stressed to the max.
After – mindfulness.
You get up in the morning. You take three deep breaths. You stretch your arms, your feet, feeling the covers silky smooth against your toes. The dog is there to greet you, her nose in your face. It is time to get up. As you let the dog out, you feel the cool night air. The sky is inky black, the stars twinkle above, and you think – I am alone in the Universe, just me and my dog. No one else matters because this time is mine.
The coffee has brewed. It is hot in the cup. Add a little cream if you like. You take the first sip as you sit in your Stressless. And you think…
It doesn’t get much better than this.
What I am trying to say, is that happiness is not so much a place as a state of mind, unless that place is Stressless.
